“These weavers seem to work using their heart as loom,” says Navya Naidu, who had the privilege witnessing the rich tradition of Ikat saree making at the weaving center, from where Kankatala handpicks its Ikats. Pochampally is a small Telangana village that has earned a big name for its beautiful Ikat weaving. As a part of her extensive research on Ikat, Navya studied the weaving process of this handloom marvel, witnessing it first-hand. She says she is at once proud and grateful to have the opportunity to be the part of this culture.
“As I observed the entire process, I was struck by the masterly skills and ardent dedication that go into creating each piece,” she adds.
